Summer 2016

Greetings Churchland High School Community,

I am thrilled to be appointed as the principal of Churchland High School. Most recently, I was principal of Brighton Elementary School and prior to that I spent several years at I.C. Norcom High School as an assistant principal. Simply put, I love all aspects of a public high school from our exceptional school arts productions, to athletics, to extracurricular activities, to our outstanding instructional programs.  There are few places in our society more dynamic than a high school.

When I think of Churchland High School, I think of “Trucker Pride!” It seems like wherever I go I meet people who talk about the endless pride associated with our prestigious high school. I have relished hearing stories about the 1954 undefeated, unscored on football team and stories about how we formed the unique name “Truckers” which relates to our communities history with truck farming. I am not aware of any school in the country with the name “Truckers,” and I love the unique moniker. Like our special name “Truckers,” our aspiration is for our high school to be special and stand out. In fact, my mantra going into the school year is “Churchland High School, Going from Good to Great.”

This summer we are busy completing hiring new staff members and getting the building ready for our students’ return on September 6. In addition, we are finishing our master schedule and reviewing Standards of Learning scores. Our data demonstrates that Churchland High School continues to have outstanding test scores and will remain a fully accredited high school. Further, we will strive to continue to be one of the Top 30 percent of American Public High Schools as recognized by U.S. News and World Reports where in 2015 and 2016, we were recognized as a Bronze Medal School.

In closing, I look forward to the school year opening and to our hallways buzzing with students. My focus will always be one where student learning comes first. In the weeks ahead and throughout the school year, I invite you to come visit our outstanding high school. In addition, I look forward to hearing the beat of our Trucker band percussionist signaling the start of our extracurricular programs and the beginning of our school year. It is an exciting time to be a “Trucker” and it is my pledge that the staff at Churchland High School will commit ourselves to providing a cutting edge educational experience to our scholars.

Go Truckers,

Mr. Shawn L. Millaci, Principal
Churchland High School
